WEST POINT, N.Y. (November 15, 2025) -- Jacori Sutton drilled a 36-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Navy Midshipmen to a 20-17 victory over the Army West Point Black Knights and claim the 2025 Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Championship on Saturday at Shea Stadium in West Point, N.Y.
Navy finished the season undefeated with a perfect 8-0 record, while Army concluded its season with a 7-1 mark. The Mids also won the league's South Division Championship, while the Black Knights were the North Champions.
Sutton's game-winning kick came just a few plays after Army missed a 44-yard attempt on the first series in OT. Hunter Gennicks fought for a three-yard run while Luke O'Conn completed a four-yard pass to Grant Sterchi earlier in the drive to help make Sutton's attempt more manageable. Sutton came into the final game of the season fresh off winning the CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week Award following week #8 action.
Sutton kicked a 21-yard field goal with 11:02 remaining in the game to give Navy a two-score lead at 17-7. With the way Navy's defense had been playing most of the afternoon, it felt at the time like that kick would be the eventual winner.
However, the Black Knights responded and scored 10-straight points to close out regulation and force overtime. Nicholas Cueto split the uprights from 24-yards out to make it, 17-10, with 7:30 remaining. After Army forced Navy to punt, the Black Knights went 69 yards in eight plays capped with a two-yard TD run from quarterback Kyle West with 2:13 to go.
Both teams each had a final drive in the last 2:13, but the game-winning score would not come until the extra session.
Navy took a 14-0 lead a minute into the second quarter off a pair of 28-yard touchdown tosses from O'Conn. He connected with Jake Berger in the first quarter and then found Biamungu Nkere :16 into the second stanza.
Army countered and got on the scoreboard midway through the second when West hooked up with Marek Arbogast for a 37-yard touchdown pass.
Navy had a chance to add to its lead down inside the red zone in the closing seconds of the first half, but Gennicks was tackled in bounds on a short screen pass and Navy couldn't run its field goal unit out in time for a try before the halftime buzzer sounded. JC Romo came up with the big stop to keep it a one-score game at the break.
It was a traditional Army-Navy sprint game with the stats close including Navy owning a slim 271-225 advantage in total yards.
O'Conn was 15-of-25 passing for 149 yards. Gennicks churned out 137 yards on 30 rushing attempts and Berger collected six receptions for 79 yards.
Jake Wolinski led all Navy tacklers with nine 1.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage. Christian Conle and Sean Bettwy each recorded an interception for the Midshipmen.
Jake Oxendine posted a game-high 11 tackles for Army including 2.0 TFLs for minus-13 yards. West threw for 174 yards and rushed for 14 more as he scored a pair of TDs.
Navy's win avenged a tough setback to Army in last season's CSFL Championship Game. It's the programs 41st CSFL Championship all-time and the 34th won outright.
