NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 7, 2023) – Navy quarterback
Brandon Atwood on Thursday was named the 2023 Collegiate Sprint Football League
(CSFL) Most Valuable Player as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The voting
for the award was conducted by all eight of the league’s head coaches.
Atwood, who earlier this week was named the CSFL Offensive
Player of the Year, won out in the voting for the MVP award as he and the other
three major award winners in 2023 were under consideration for the ultimate
honor. The other CSFL major award winners in 2023 included Army West Point’s
Luke Gigliotti (Defensive Player of the Year), Penn’s Adrian Montemayor
(Special Teams Player of the Year) and Army’s Maurice Bellan (Rookie of the
Year).
Atwood, who was also named 2023 First Team All-CSFL,
started all eight games for the Mids, tallying 1,186 yards through the air. The
senior signal caller finished the year 97-for-151 with 16 touchdown passes
compared to just four interceptions.
Additionally, Atwood led the team in rushing, netting 465 yards on 80 attempts for a 5.8 average per attempt with four touchdowns. The Gentry, Ark. native tallied 1,651 total yards of offense, notching 206.4 yards per game, while being a part of 20 of Navy's 35 total touchdowns on the season (57.1 percent).
It marks the third-consecutive year a Midshipmen took home the league’s MVP award as Atwood joins Adam Weissenfels (2021) and Alex Totta (2022) as the three winners during this impressive string of football for the Navy program (3-consecutive CSFL Championships).
