NEW HAVEN, Conn. (December 14, 2022) -- Navy running back Alex Totta on Wednesday was named the 2022 Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Most Valuable Player, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Totta earned the prestigious honor following a vote conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

The four major award winners from the recently-completed 2022 season were on the ballot including Totta (CSFL Offensive Player of the Year), Army West Point's Luke Gigliotti (CSFL Defensive Player of the Year), Caldwell University's Devon Turner (CSFL Rookie of the Year) and Penn's Adrian Montemayor (CSFL Special Teams Player of the Year). The 2022 major award winners and all-league honorees were announced in late November following the 2022 CSFL Championship Game, which was won by Navy for the second-consecutive season. It also marked the second-straight year a Mid captured the CSFL's top yearly award, joining former defensive back Adam Weissenfels, who won the honor in 2021.

Totta was a workhorse back for the Mids all season as Navy rolled to its second-consecutive undefeated season capped by a CSFL Championship. He rushed for over 1,100 yards in only eight games and scored 15 touchdowns. Totta led the CSFL in carries (190), rushing yards (1,113), average yards per game (139.1) and touchdowns. He ranked second in the league with 5.9 yards per carry. Totta pounded out a season-best 283 yards rushing at Caldwell, and logged 193 yards -- including a 41-yard TD run with 1:51 remaining -- to help the Mids break a 21-all tie and defeat traditional rival Army in the CSFL Championship Game earlier this month in Annapolis (Final Score: 28-21). He rushed for over 100 yards in 6-of-8 games in 2022. Totta was also a factor in the passing game as he caught 13 passes for 109 yards (8.4 yds/rec.). Totta was named a First-Team All-CSFL Running Back.
